About Us

Our Mission

We are an independent Baptist church.  Our desire is to preach and teach God's word as it is to people as they are, both here and around the world. Landmark Baptist Church in Elkins, WV supports 41 missions works globally.  Our church feels that our highest priority is to take the gospel to those who are living and dying without the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour. We base our belief on the Great Commission that Christ Himself gave in Matthew 28:19-20.

Our Members

In reality a church is not bricks and mortar, neither is it carpet and pews.  We do have all these things. . . . but if they were gone today, the church would still exist because the church is the people. Our church family consists of a great number of ordinary people who have an extra ordinary God. You will find that our family is warm and friendly.  We are a group of people who realize, that truly, we are all simply sinners saved by God’s loving grace.

Our Pastoral Staff . . . . .

"My hope and prayer is that Landmark Baptist Church will be a lighthouse to our community and around the world through our missions program."

Mark A. Houser

We would like to wish Mark, Alice, Whitney, William, Jessica and Emily much joy in their new church home, Heritage Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Virginia.  Their LBC family will miss them all terribly, but we will keep them close always in prayer as they submit to God's leading over their lives. Thank you for sharing your lives and talents with us over the years.

Mark D. Scott, Assistant Pastor / Teens

Mark Scott has been youth pastor at Landmark Baptist Church for eight years. He is a 1989 graduate of Tabernacle Baptist Bible College in Greenville, SC. While at college he met and married his wife of 20 years, Tracey. Tracey's father, Ken Bays, is a native of Raleigh County, WV. Mark, Tracey and their children Stephanie (15) and Catherine (14) moved to WV in 1997 and began immediately attending Landmark. In 2000, Mark started teaching a group of eight senior high school boys. Today, that group has grown to nearly 50 boys and girls from 6th to 12th grade. On Sunday and Wednesday evenings 25 to 30 young people will be downstairs worshipping in the services.

"My greatest joy is to see our youth grow into productive citizens and members of our church," Mark says. " We have seen many of our kids become top college students and service men and women serving our country. We now have two in bible college preparing for the ministry."

In addition to Mark's duties at the church, he also owns an insurance agency and a real estate development company. He is also involved in community and civic activities. Mark's motto is, "Give back by investing your energy in those who are tomorrow."

Ron K. Davis, Assistant Pastor / Youth

While serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Ron surrendered to serve the Lord in full time ministry.  Ron graduated from Atlantic Baptist Bible College in May of 1989.  He served as a Youth and Children’s pastor in two other ministries and served as a missionary in the country of Slovakia for five years before coming to Landmark Baptist Church in January 2005.

Ron has a passion for reaching kids with the Gospel of Christ in a biblically sound, yet relevant way.  Ron and his wife Riki also serve as the puppet team directors at Landmark.  Both Ron and Riki have been involved in puppet ministry for over 25 years.  A favorite pastime at the Davis home is watching the “Muppets.”  Ron and Riki have two sons, Seth and Silas.
